Inspired by a handmade keepsake from my Grandmother Mimi, KWOLA® was born out of my craving for connection. During a period of soul searching, I began to draw inspiration from my family, especially the moments that gathered us around a table together. Mimi’s table never had any open real estate, and it was obvious she cherished what cooking represented - love, health and most importantly, community.
At a turning point in my life (illness followed by a career change), I was seeking something creative, a kind of tactile therapy. What if I learned to make that beautiful keepsake Mimi handcrafted all those years ago? It symbolized so much of what I was longing for and hoping to find.
After many (many) attempts and bloodstained fabrics, I quickly learned I was no seamstress. I knew how to market products from my previous life, but could I make one? I turned to my creative community for help evolving what Mimi had hand-crafted into something modern that carried on the tradition she shared with me.
This journey began in 2018 and involved a seemingly never-ending valley. I hit every obstacle possible (including a global pandemic), but my deep desire to create something that brought people together kept me going.
KWOLA® is a one-woman shop based in Austin, TX. Manufactured with Lefty productions (woman owned, US based), and brought to you proudly by a loving Granddaughter.
What was once a distant longing has now become a reality. I'm so grateful to finally share this gift with the world and help others cultivate their authentic community. Not to mention how the process has deepened my connection to my inspiration, Mimi.
I proudly share KWOLA® with the world and hope you and yours will Gather in Good Taste.®
